USA Dance LA got a jump on
Spring on Sunday, April 5 at our Spring Ball. Over 250
guests gathered for our second blowout event at Culver
City Veteran's Memorial Auditorium. Trish Connery helped
us launch the evening with a free West Coast Swing lesson,
followed up by open dancing to elegant smooth, Latin,
swing and hustle numbers spun by the ever-fabulous DJ
James Woo.
Award-winning Latin dance pro Tom Hicks of the Regency
Ballroom showed-off what youth students Juilanna Higa
and Anna O'Connor have been learning by performing with
them back-to-back east coast swing numbers that really
rocked the crowd. Next he treated us to a mesmerizing
waltz with the ever-so-lovely Yvonne Co.
Our always popular buffet spread hit the spot, and our
waltz and foxtrot mixers added just the right spice to
the evening.
Keep your eyes and ears out for details on our next dance,
Sunday, May 17, 2009.
Thanks again and keep on dancin'.
The Oscar for ballroom dancing goes to the members of
USA Dance LA! Our first dance of 2009 happened to fall
on Academy Awards night and was our largest ever, with
300 dancers.

USA Dance LA Chapter set the
season's festivities rolling with our holiday ball on
December 5th at the Mayflower Ballroom . A free party
for USA Dance members, we attracted some 250 attendees,
54 of which signed up as new members. That means we have
now reached 416 members, making ours the 2nd largest USA
Dance chapter in the nation! Look out NY
. here
we COME!!!
That night we reached critical mass in more ways than
one --- our Startlight Children's Foundation Toy Drive
collected over 100 toys for seriously ill children. Needless
to say, the Starlight Foundation was absolutely thrilled
and the children will be delighted. Thanks so much to
all who participated in the drive.
We launched the evening with a Waltz lesson taught by
Taylor Grey and danced all night to classics and new music
spun by the always fabulous DJ, James Woo.
We were treated to a lovely performance by Mierelle Tuendemann
and Taylor Grey who performed a heavenly waltz and with
some urging followed up by dancing a fantastic fox-trot.
Our food table hit the spot once again and judging from
the leftovers (NONE), our patrons enjoyed the spread.
The tiramisu cake, with our festive USA Dance logo on
top, was to die for.
Our lottery ticket giveaway included our new USA Dance
branded shoe bags, now on sale at all of our dances.
Finally, Mark Sinaguglia was recognized for his many years
of service as manager of the Mayflower. The President
of the Chapter, Harris Sperling, presented him with a
framed plaque expressing our thanks, signed by the USA
Dance LA Board.
