"Dancing with the (Future)
Stars" is U.S.A. Dance Los Angeles Chapter 4031's new initiative
to teach ballroom dance to kids. We launched the program to
create a love of ballroom dance in the next generation and
expose kids who might otherwise not have the opportunity.
The program is currently being targeted to sixth-graders at
LAUSD's Sutter Middle School in Winnetka, CA.
Students are taught foxtrot,
rumba, cha cha, salsa, and others as part of physical education
class. Our chapter pays local instructor David Grace to teach
the classes, and board members Annette Devore and Guin Lister
have been volunteering to assist him.
All profits from our November
2, 2007 showcase went tosupport this ongoing program. Our
current goal is to rotate all of Sutter's 550 sixth-graders
through the curriculum by the end of this school term. We
hope to extend the program to Sutter's seventh and eight-graders,
funding permitted.
For information on how
to help fund the program, please contact U.S.A. Dance Los
Angeles Chapter 4031 School Program Director Michele Wolpe
at michelewolpe@sbcglobal.net.

Michael Kuka and Natalia Lind have launched the Ballroom Dance
Academy's Teacher Training Program. Starting in January 2008,
you will be able to learn to teach. If you graduate by passing
the DVIDA teachers certification exam, you will become a qualified
dance teacher for that level. If teaching dance is your dream,
then please see http://www.learntoteachballroom.com/
for details.
Just like hundreds of people each month, you
are reading these words on the Internet. We would like to
thank Jon Toellner for supporting our chapter with a gift
of free web hosting. Hosting is Jon's business and therefore
his gift is very deeply appreciated. Jon is such a nice guy
and we are lucky to know him.
Please see our volunteer page for opportunites.
